Student Cabinet

What We Do

The Student Cabinet was created for the purpose of having student representation on NSCC’s various campus committees.  These committees deal with a wide range of issues that either directly, or indirectly impact students on our campus.  Having student representation gives the student body a voice in making important decisions.  It also allows the passing of information from the administration and faculty to the student population.  By working with the Student Administration Council (SAC), the Student Cabinet can pass information from their committees, directly to the student body.

General Responsibilities

Each committee member is responsible for attending all of their committee meetings.  Meetings are generally held during the week, in the early to late afternoon, once or twice a month.  Each committee has a different schedule, which may include work outside of the meeting dates.  In addition to committee obligations, members are required to submit written reports to the SAC Cabinet Coordinator (the Coordinator heads the Cabinet, facilites meetings, helps with scheduling, reports to the SAC, and more).  Once a month, members are required to attend a Cabinet meeting, where the Student Cabinet meets and exchanges information. The SAC also conducts a monthly public meeting, where the Cabinet shares information directly with the SAC and the student body.  These meetings are open to the public, so other students, faculty, administration, and community members may be in attendance.  At both meetings, Cabinet members give oral presentations detailing the work being done by their committee.

How to Join

During both Spring and Summer quarters, applications are accepted for the upcoming school year.  Positions may become available as the year progresses, so students are encouraged to apply at any time.  To apply, students are required to submit a one page essay responding to select questions from the application    Once an application is accepted, applicants may invited to interview for a position.  The interviews are generally conducted by a combination of SAC, Student Leadership, and committee members.

All students at North are encouraged apply.  There are generally about 12 committees that need student representation.  Some of which have more than one student.   In order to be eligible for a Cabinet position, applicants must maintain a 2.5 gpa and be enrolled at North for at least one quarter for the year they will be serving (most committees require a full year commitment).
