Universal Technology Fee
What is the Student Universal Technology Fee?
The Universal Technology Fee is a $3 per credit fee (a maximum of $30/semester) for technology related hardware, software, and service programs which promote higher quality learning and a better college experience at North.
What are UTF funds used for?
In past surveys, students have said their priorities were to update open-computer-labs with faster higher performing computers in addition to adding and upgrading printers and scanners. The UTF committee has met these needs and more! Over the past few years, awards have enhanced technology throughout the entire campus, from instructional divisions to registration and student services. Examples of funding from 2009 include:
- 10 laptop computers for nursing students enrolled in NA-C, LPN and RN programs
- 106 computers to replace outdated failing computers located in three open student labs
- 16 replacement laptop computers that are housed on a cart that is rolled into physics, chemistry, geology biology and astronomy classrooms as needed
- A variety of technical scientific equipment that may be used to measure things like light wave lengths, oxygen levels, muscle strength, digital signals, instrument timing, etc.
- 16 flat screen monitors for computer classroom
- Language and writing software for the Loft
Who allocates UTF funds?
The processes for allocating UTF dollars are overseen by the Student Fee Board and the Director of Information Technologies, Lori Casile.
