The Rover, Playing at Stage One

Apologies for the delay, but better late than never. Here is the information from Stage One about the new play The Rover. Check it out:

The Rover
by
Aphra Behn

  • Shakespearean language
  • Melodramatic acting
  • Spectacular sets and costumes

Don’t miss it!

Not many writers in 17th Century England were questioning racial and gender inequality, but Aphra Behn wasn’t just any writer.  She had travelled to the Americas, she had worked as a spy for King Charles II, she had been to prison.  She wrote from experience and with great passion.  And she was arguably the first professional woman writer in England.  The Rover is a character-driven story of love and swordplay – and strangely modern despite having been written more than 300 years ago.  Funny, witty, sexy, acerbic, and always entertaining.
