Budget Planning Team
Mission statement
Creates budget development guidelines, establishes timeline for annual budget request process, and aligns requests with college’s Strategic Plan. Discusses statewide and District budget issues that may affect the college. Working with College Council, the President and Vice Presidents, and using the Strategic Plan as a guide, the committee will help plan for a balanced budget every fiscal year.
It is important for students to have knowledge of the Budget planning process at the college, and to have input on how funds are allocated to various departments on campus. The BPT analyzes the college budget each year, estimates revenues and reductions, and makes recommendations to the college’s Executive Team.
Preferred qualifications
Knowledge or interest in finance or accounting, understanding of budget development and interest in setting policy.
Schedule
Dates: Not yet determined, but usually Wednesday afternoons. Some special sessions are held in the spring or summer when there is important business.

Health & Safety Committee
Mission statement
The purpose of this committee is to review injury reports and other health and safety concerns and to make recommendations.

Strategic Planning Committee
Mission statement
The role of the strategic planning committee is to strengthen the strategic planning process by monitoring the components and engaging in regular dialogue with college leadership to discuss what it observes and to identify what must occur to keep the process on track and moving effectively toward achieving identified objectives and goals. As an outcome of its own deliberations and collaborative discussions with the Executive Team, six primary functions have been assigned to the Strategic Planning Committee:
1. To monitor trends that impact the college and to help inform the planning process with such information
2. To review unit objectives and to assist unit managers both to align their objectives to institutional goals and to express the objectives in terms of measurable outcomes
3. To monitor the college’s performance on key performance indicators and to help align unit objectives with the identified indicators
4. To identify and facilitate opportunities for collaboration and synergy of efforts between various units
5. To share its perspectives on the planning process with college leadership and together with them identify ways to strengthen the process and make it more transparent to the college community
6. To help keep the college community informed about the planning process

College Council
Mission Statement
The role of the College Council is to ensure that the constituents of the college will have the opportunity to participate actively and collaboratively in the development of policies and procedures of the institution. Individuals and constituencies shall have ample opportunity to submit and provide input on proposals related to the development of campus-wide policies and procedures.

We need a student voice to make sure all of the college constituencies are represented since the Council discusses college-wide issues and provides feedback to the administration regarding decisions impacting us all
Preferred qualifications
It would work best to have a student who is a continuing student, rather than someone who has just started at the college. Someone who has broad experience in a variety of classes and programs would also be most helpful, as we look at college-wide issues for the most part.

Student Fee Board
Mission statement
The purpose of the Student Fee Board is to allocate the fees that students pay as part of, and in addition, to tuition. These fees include the Service and Activity Fee, Universal Technology Fee and Student General/Enhancement Funds. The Student Fee Board distributes more than one million dollars annually.
Those who are appointed to the Student Fee Board must commit to one year of service – fall, winter and spring quarters. Members will be responsible, and held accountable, for learning about the programs, services, equipment and ways in which student fees are used to support student success. Members will evaluate how fees are being utilized and, along with campus employees, will work to ensure fees are used efficiently for their intended purpose. As necessary, members will conduct research on student needs and satisfaction in order to formulate recommendations for program improvement, closure or new program creation.
Members will be expected to exhibit high standards of professionalism, and to this end, will be given appropriate training, resources and support to carry out responsibilities. During certain allocation cycles, campus employees will join the committee to give support and guidance as well as provide a representative vote.
Preferred qualifications
Students must commit to serving through the end of spring quarter 2009. Students will be expected to spend some time outside of the meetings learning about various programs and resources that are funded by student fees. Students will be expected to engage critical thinking in evaluating requests and making allocation decisions.

E-TAC
Educational Technologies Advisory Committee (ETAC)
Mission statement
“The missions of ETAC (Educational Technologies Advisory Committee)are:
- CAMPUS-WIDE COMMUNICATION: To provide a venue for a monthly dialogue amongst interrelated support units of the college in order to foster cross-campus communication, collaboration, coordination and visioning on e-learning, technology and library services;
- GUIDANCE BY CAMPUS COMMUNITY: To provide a means for the campus community to guide the college on actions plans for use of e-learning, technology and library services in the quest to change student lives through education;
- SHARE BEST PRACTICES: To help promote best practices in the use of e-learning, technology and library services.”
Student voices are essential contributors to how educational technologies best serve the college community. Feedback and suggestions from the student representative on the successes, challenges and needs of students are key ingredients for effectively enhancing / supporting learning with the help of technology.
Preferred qualifications
An enthusiastic member would probably be a student who is especially interested in the uses of new technologies in education. It would probably also be very helpful to have someone who has had classes that use technologies (like the ANGEL learning management system), whether fully on-campus, hybrid or fully online. First-hand experience will provide extra perspective.

Tutoring Advisory
Mission statement
To foster collaboration between the various tutoring services offered at North Seattle Community College and address common needs such as:
- Marketing
- Vision
- Training
- Assessment
- Facilities
- Policies
- And More
A student representative will provide student input on this distinctly student centered academic service.
Preferred student qualifications
Ideally, a person who uses tutoring services on campus.

Dates: Monday Oct. 12. We will set our schedule for the quarter at that meeting. Usually no more than two times a quarter.

Sustainability Committee
Mission statement
Lead the college in the direction of becoming a more “sustainable” organization.
A student representative will keep the work of the committee and the college connected to the sustainability efforts of the student body and will help keep the general student body informed of this work.

Hard-working, conscientious student dedicated to the sustainability initiatives and philosophy

Capital Projects Steering Committee
Mission statement
Gather input from, and represent, the diverse stakeholder groups that make up the college community to align capital projects with the North Seattle Community College strategic plan.
This will allow us to hear from, and give voice to, one of the most important constituencies on the college campus.

Interest in the buildings that make up the North Seattle Community College campus

Strategic Enrollment Management Committee
Mission statement
To support the recruitment and retention of students to the completion of their chosen programs of study.
Student perspective is important on many committees, and the strategic enrollment management committee is one of them. Students add an important voice to matters the committee considers and help ensure that we do not overlook the student viewpoint as we move forward with projects that our committee takes on.
Preferred qualifications
Someone who is aware of what is happening on campus, connected to the student body, and can commit to the meeting schedule.

Curriculum and Academic Standards committee (CAS)
Mission statement
The Curriculum and Academic Standards Committee (CAS) is a standing campus governance committee which encourages and fosters curriculum development and faculty participation in the governance of the college curriculum and academic standards. As a standing committee in the campus shared-governance process, CAS seeks to remain responsive to emerging needs; to recognize and respect the contributions of all members of the college, and to support quality, openness, and vision in teaching and learning.
The representative may find discussions regarding campus learning outcomes and how to assess whether students have achieved those much more interesting.
Preferred qualifications
Familiar with essential learning outcomes and interest in student learning and assessment.

Space Allocation
Mission statement
To provide broad based college community input in the decision making process for space allocation and capital project requests. To facilitate equitable allocation of space on campus and to effectively and efficiently manage space and capital resources to best meet the needs of the college. Requests for space shall be consistent with the college’s Strategic Plan.
Preferred qualifications:
Ability to understand construction planning and what is going on all over campus (what spaces are being used and what is available)
