SUMMARY

Roy Flores joined from 1:30-2:00pm to discuss concepts about the how the process of the proposed Student Center can be organized.  We identified several areas to keep focus on.  We briefly discussed strategies for raising money, decision making with the creation of a committee, and creating a vision for future students and campus community members.  The most important of these in establishing and maintaining open communication with the facilities department on campus.  We also explored some potential ideas and visions for the Student Center itself.  We interviewed a potential candidate for additional Student Administrative Council team member positions.  We then worked through items on our agenda for the main portion of our meeting.

TOPICS

Student Center

There exists the opportunity to help and be an integral part to build a new Student Center from multiple funding sources.  It will be key for us to create a vision and commit to this vision.  Some questions we should ask ourselves and students are:

Public Meeting Brief

Utilizing the Green Room as our space for public meetings continues to be an issue.  The location of the room is prime, the quality of presentation and discussion is greatly diminished by the sound quality and disturbances from outside sound sources.  It is enhanced when the doors are closed.  However, this limits our visibility and ability to attract additional students and community members into our meetings.  It is suggested that we may look to the Baxter Events Center as an alternate location.  Another option may be to have an SAC member outside of the doors (which would be closed) as a greeter and audience recruiter.  We all seemed to like this idea.  We will continue to develop a sound way to distribute the reporting during our meetings.  Additionally we discussed following up about using the campus’ Audience Response System and maintaining flexibility with our meeting schedule when we have guests who are traveling in from some distance.  Traffic can have a HUGE impact upon the traveler’s time of arrival.

Outlook

Basically, we need to get this system working and being implemented in a way that will effectively increase our communication with the district.

Cultural Competency

We will tentatively be re-scheduling this professional development seminar for Winter quarter.
