ESL Welcome
Jeffrey Vasquez and Kim Chapman put together a welcome event for ESL students. There were three sessions in order to reach out to both day and evening students. Members of the Student Administrative Council were able to speak at the event and encouraged ESL students to get involved in campus activities and voice their opinions. The event was an encouraging way to welcome ESL students to our campus.
Student Administrative Council (SAC)
The SAC held its first public meeting on Oct 16th. The purpose of the meeting was to:
- Answer questions from students, Administration, Faculty, and Staff
- Encourage students to voice their opinions and get involved.
- Share Survey results
- Introduce the members of the Student Council and their function and to give an overview of some of the topics they have been involved in.
- Matthew Lord and Cayla Poznanovich created a new section on the student leadership website where both members of the student cabinet and committees will post their reports, making the information much more visible and accessible than it has been in the past.
Arts & Lectures
- Diversity Lecture: Raymond A. Winbush talked about “racial reconciliation, healing, and in building bridges between all our communities
- The Annual Welcome Student Success Fair (AKA welcome BBQ) was very popular this year. Student Leadership was very visible and offered free tacos to students who participated in a short survey. It also provided a chance to advertise the new NSCC book exchange and get out and meet students.
