Summary
Alexis opened the meeting with a role playing game to help develop individual ”elevator speeches”. There were several questions that were asked of each person and the answers were recorded to help shape our answers.
Action items
- Familiarizing ourselves with common questions that we may be asked and getting comfortable with answering in the clearest and concise way.
Notes
The following is a list of the Questions that Students may ask and the answers that we brainstormed as a group. Also, things we should be cautious of:
- Q: Why does SAC matter?
- A: The students at NSCC pay a fee (S&A) and we, at SAC, are the facilitators that voice students opinions and make sure that there money is being spent on relative and important things.
- A: It also provides an opportunity to get involved in student activities and volunteer in order to further what one can receive while attending the college.
- Q: What role do/should students play?
- A: First things first, they should feel supported and know that we are here and want to hear from them.
- Attend SAC meetings!
- Be on a committee
- Stay informed and up to date on our website
- Leave comments, post blogs on the website
- volunteer with arts and lectures
- Q: What do you do as a student leader?
- A: Support the student body!
- Facilitate communication in the college community
- organize the student cabinet, clubs and committees
- participate in the development of and learn about an open organizational structure through practice.
- We should ask: what do you want us to do?
- Q: What do you want from me?
- A:Talk to us
- Know that we want to hear from you
- complete our surveys
- Email us!
- Be aware of opportunities that exist?
- Q: What opportunities are there?
- A: Many opportunities are on the website
- Be on a committee
- Volunteer (arts and lecture)
- Book exchange
- What opportunities are YOU looking for? Would you mind sharing with me what your interests are so that I can help you locate an opportunity?
- Start/join a club
- Q: What is the SAC?
- Leaders among leaders
- We take the information we get from students and committees and voice it to administration, faculty, and staff
- As a side note to this: Would it be possible to allow those who wish to have their voice heard take a direct part in the process? for example, depending on the circumstances, allow them to present it to the administration, faculty, and staff?
- We are a group of students that want to help and serve our community
- We should be careful not to compare ourselves to the old government model in a way that seems boastful
- Maybe saying that we are launching a new model is irrelevant?
- explain where we sit in org. charts.
Funds requests:
We also had a discussion about a funds request proposal. We talked about conditions for receiving funding for events and thought that the recipients should be required to post an advertisement for their event on the SAC website.
