With the cost of textbooks making up a fair portion of school expenses, many students continue to look for alternatives.  There are many ways students can work around this, posting on bulletin boards, finding used books online, or speaking with one another on campus.  There are many people in the education community searching for alternatives as well.  This may include class instruction materials being provided by the instructor which take the form of self-published documents in both online and hard copy formats.  This remains to be a viable long term solution.  Presently, students still require textbooks from bookstores.

The web link listed above ( northseattle.tbxn.com ) is a website which allows students to create a FREE profile account in order to post books for sale as well as post want ads for the titles they are looking for.  The site includes listings from several online retailers as well.  This helps to create the higher likely-hood of a win-win opportunity for students who are buying text books.

Students can compare and contrast prices, make a decision about which book to purchase, and arrange to meet in locations they specify, such as the campus cafeteria.  For those students who are selling their textbooks, this offers a larger avenue in which to do so, yet still be focused on the campus population of students.  Another feature of this site allows sellers to create fliers with a list of the books they are selling.  The fliers have a reference code on them which helps buyers to locate the books on the site.

The website ( northseattle.tbxn.com ) was created for our campus by tbxn.com, a free service provided by rcampus.com.  They were very friendly and quick in their response to create a domain specific to our community college including the use of our school’s logo for identity and branding.
