Blood Drive
We had a successful blood drive on 1/31/08 with 31 students and staff donating. Because blood supplies are so low at the time, the Puget Sound Blood Center is very grateful to everyone who was able to donate. We will be having our next drive on April 3 in the Student Events center.
Student Clubs
Student clubs are active on campus. The International student club had a Valentine fundraiser where they sold flowers, cards and candy and delivered them to people on Valentine’s Day.
Art Gallery Opening Show
The art gallery held two receptions (1pm – 3pm & 6pm – 8pm) on 2/19/08 for the opening of the “It’s About Time” show which was open to staff and students to submit art work that fit the “time” theme. There were over 100 people in attendance at the receptions and students, staff and community enjoyed the show which runs from 2/19/08 – 3/14/08.
Arts & Lectures Series
The Arts & Lectures committee was busy in October.
- The diversity series continued with the third lecture, “The N Word” which was presented by Eddie Moore and J.W. Wiley. There were 60 people in attendance and the program received rave reviews.
- The silent cinema series is going well and there were movies shown in February. This series is being piloted this year and students seem to really be enjoying the movies which are silent movies shown on the screen in the cafeteria during the lunch hour.
- Ross Matteson , an artist who made a bronze sculpture of the Northern Flicker (which is mounted on a cement pillar in the courtyard) gave a presentation on the making of this art piece, “A Private story of Public Art” on 2/20/08.
Student Government
- We held our third public Student Government meeting on 2/21/08 to solicit input about the restructuring of student leadership from students on campus. These meetings have been very successful with many students in attendance.
- The faculty senate invited us to their meeting to give them an update on what the members of the student leadership team are working on. Liz Kendall led them through a power point presentation which went over well.
- We also gave a quick presentation at the President’s all college meeting on 2/27/08.
