SUBJECT: STUDENT COUNCIL BOARD REPORT – INFORMATION ONLY
Stage One
Stage One had a successful showing of their winter quarter production, “The Don Juan Cult Concerto”
which ran from March 1 – 9.
Student Clubs
- The Engineering/Science Club had a guest speaker, Pasqual Rivera, on March 14 in the Baxter Events Center. Mr. Rivera spoke on “Nanotechnology Now: Small Science Making Big Waves” to the members of the club, faculty, staff and community members.
- The Indonesian Community Club held their end of the quarter celebration on March 6 and there were approximately 30-40 students in attendance. They enjoyed games, pizza and community building.
Phi Theta Kappa
Phi Theta Kappa welcomed 54 new members for Winter quarter and they held their induction ceremony on March 6. They are in the process of selecting new officers for the 2008-2009 academic year. Advisor, Melissa Grinley and chapter president, Lisa Fraley attended the NW Regional conference at Clark Community College. At that meeting, the NSCC chapter was recognized as one of the top three Phi Theta Kappa chapters in the region for both service and scholarship. Additionally, the chapter was awarded one of three Distinguished Chapter Awards and Lisa received a Distinguished President Award in recognition for service by leaders in their chapters, on campus and in the community.
Student Leadership Council
- We held our fourth public Student Leadership meeting on March 6 with a presentation on a possible new model. Students gave feedback and suggestions on the model which the Student Leadership team is taking into consideration.
- Six students and two faculty/staff members were chosen to serve on the S&A fee committee that will be responsible for recommending a budget for the 2008-2009 academic year. The students serving on this committee are Shantay Johnson, David Roman, Febbe Fekadu, Jillian Faker, Ruby Wyatt and Sam Yohannes. The two faculty/staff members are Ralph Jenne and Steve Anderson. Jeffrey Vasquez and Janet Hoppe-Leonard from the Student Leadership and Multicultural Programs office, serve as non-voting members of the budget committee.
