Blood Drive
We had a successful blood drive with 25 students and staff donating. Because blood supplies are so low at the time, the Puget Sound Blood Center is very grateful to everyone who was able to donate. We will be having our next drive on November 28 in the Student Events center.
Phi Theta Kappa Satellite Seminar Series
Phi Theta Kappa kicked off the first seminar on October 9 with a presentation entitled, “How to win a Cosmic War” with speaker Reza Aslan. The second seminar was shown on October 30 with a presentation on “Dealing with the Dragon: America’s Economic Relationship with China” with speaker Zanny Monton Beddoes. These presentations from the national PTK office are downloaded and shown to students on campus.
Student Clubs
Student clubs are getting active on campus. The Engineering and Science Club is busy meeting and planning for the year with over 35 members. The International student club had a fun Halloween party open to all students and the Indonesian club had their annual Welcoming event on October 20. Many other clubs are filling out paperwork and recruiting new members.
National Coming Out Day
National Coming Out Day was recognized on October 11 by placing our pink door out in the middle of the courtyard with information about Coming Out Day.
Art Gallery Opening Show
The art gallery held two receptions (1pm – 3pm & 6pm – 8pm) on 10/9/07 for the opening of the “Multimedia and Collage” show. There were over 100 people in attendance at the receptions and students, staff and community enjoyed the show which ran through November 2.
Arts & Lectures Series
The Arts & Lectures committee was busy in October. The diversity series was kicked off on Thursday, October 18 with a lecture by Dr. Cornel Pewewardy entitled “Hail to the Honkies!: Indian mascots as white privilege in American sports culture”. After the lecture, Dr. Pewewardy met with students and staff for an informal discussion. The A&L committee also had the Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) altar set up for several days where students and staff left many heartfelt messages to their loved ones who have passed on. A pumpkin carving contest was also held and there were many beautiful creations.
