Position: Communications Systems Coordinator

Goals for you position:

Help to build and implement a book exchange application and define particular systems of communication within the structure of the SAC which will allow for the exchange of rich, accessible information to students and faculty.

How/What do you hope to contribute to the student body?

I hope to contribute a sensible work ethic and level of responsibility for the position I have entered.  In doing so I also hope to provide an open source of information and resources for other members, as well as the students and general public in the community.  These are pretty vague, though they fulfill my hopes of what I’d like to contribute.

What do you most desire to see change or grow at North?

I’d like to see that more people at North will connect in sharing their experiences and resources for others to learn from and with.
Why did you decide to participate in SAC?

My whole time in attendance at North Seattle Community College I’ve felt as though it would be best for me to work in order to get the most I can from my education.  Understanding it would take involvement outside of my classes, I began looking for opportunities to do so.  Other students approached me about getting involved in specific areas and that’s where it began.  I participated with the UTF Committee (Universal Technology Fee) and shortly after began to help with the maintenance and development of the website for the Student Leadership and Multicultural Programs office.  Now being a part of the SAC seems like a good next step!

Where are you from, what do you bring with you to North?

I am from the west coast of the United States of America, Earth.  I grew up in Bakersfield, CA and in the middle of high school, my family moved to Anchorage, AK.  I didn’t like it at first (middle of Winter, FREEZING weather, minimal daylight, and no place to skateboard like I did in Cali), though I grew to love living there.  Being close with nature and believe it or not, there is a pretty diverse population of people in Alaska.  At least this was my experience.  I enjoyed all of these things about living there and when it came time to move out on my own, Seattle seemed right.  It’s also the closest large city outside of Alaska in the “lower 48.”  I’ve been here in Seattle for almost 10 years now and still appreciate the rain and the sun.

These experiences have instilled an ability to view things from many perspectives, sometimes to a fault.  I will analyze situations or potential situations until it appears as though I am able to see all outcomes.  Though time consuming and not always accurate, I feel this is a strength and a weakness which I bring with me.  I enjoy helping people too… especially to accomplish positive and creative results.

Outside of work and school I am enjoying learning more (as much as I can) about web design and open-source programming.  I collect vinyl records and enjoy DJing at the Paragon in Queen Anne, first Fridays of the month.  I also like to create music, both original and sampled.
